Author looks for Lincoln in road trip-By MICHAEL HILL, Associated Press Writer

"Land of Lincoln" (Atlantic Monthly Press. 272 pages. $24) — Andrew Ferguson: Everyone knows about Abraham Lincoln: 16th president of the United States, saved the Union, freed the slaves. And, oh yes, war criminal, depressive, secular saint, homosexual and business management guru.
Not only is Lincoln one of the most looming figures in U.S. history, he likely has been analyzed and interpreted more than any other American. Thousands of books have been written about the man. Over generations, he has become sort of a national Rorschach blot. People see in him in different lights, depending on their point of view.
Ferguson, a senior editor at The Weekly Standard, takes a look at what Lincoln means to Americans in the 21st century in this road-trip book. With stops in Gettysburg, Va., Beverly Hills, Calif., and a lot of places in between, Ferguson rubs shoulders with latter-day Confederates, collectors, historians, Lincoln look-alikes and buffs galore.
Like any road trip, some stretches are better than others. Especially fun is the Lincoln-themed business workshop where pre-Civil War America is translated into PowerPoint bullets ("USA as a fast-growth company") and a convention of Lincoln presenters, where a roomful of black-clad guys with beards and top hats earnestly trade tips on how to land school gigs.
Ferguson clearly has his own views on Lincoln. The author doesn't show much charity for the liberal crop of contemporary historians or museum types inspired by the Disney Co. He writes how designers of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Ill., briefly considered a Lincoln roller-coaster.
"Lincoln had a lot of highs and lows in his life," the chief designer explains. "He was bipolar, right?"
Ferguson first fell in love with Lincoln when he was a boy, and the author's enduring esteem saves the book from being merely snarky or ironic. Particularly poignant is Ferguson's effort to re-create a childhood family trip among Midwest Lincoln landmarks with his own wife and kids. Every parent knows how that one turns out.
So who was the real Lincoln?
Ferguson wisely leaves the question aside as he focuses on other people's interpretations. By the book's end, the reader is left with the impression that this private, complex man is unknowable to us 142 years after his assassination — no matter how many books are written about him.

British geriatrics take to the rock star life-By Luke Baker

LONDON (Reuters) - They may have an average age of 78, but these rockers can tear up the stage with the best of them and are determined to take the music charts by storm. The Zimmers, a rock band made up of 40 old-age pensioners, including one who's 99 and another who's 100, have released a single they hope will draw attention to the problems faced by senior citizens in Britain and the world over.
Their rendition of The Who's "My Generation," sung by 90-year-old Alf Carretta with backing vocals by a choir of beaming pensioners on zimmer frames, has been viewed more than two million times on YouTube.
They've also appeared on a prime-time British chat programme, when Carretta obligingly smashed up a guitar, been the subject of a film and are scheduled to visit the United States next week to sing on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."
The publicity is set to give a big boost to their single, released on Monday, when the new charts are announced.
Brought together by a documentary filmmaker who was concerned about the plight of senior citizens, The Zimmers recorded "My Generation" at the legendary Abbey Road studios and have received support from top international producers.
While they hope their performances will draw attention to the isolation and abandonment faced by many elderly people, they're also determined to have a good time.
"I love having a good laugh and a bit of entertainment," Buster Martin, at 100 the oldest member of the group, told Reuters by phone as he got ready for a photo shoot.
"I may no longer be an oil painting, but I can still be a rock star."
Asked how long he planned his rock career to go on for, Martin was defiant:
"I'll carry on until I don't wake up in the morning and my days are finally up."
Several of The Zimmers have been friends for 30 years -- they used to play bingo in London together every week until the company that ran it shut down, leaving them without a hobby to bring them together.
At 69, Avis Lewinson is one of the youngest of the group. While she has sung and performed all her life, she said she'd never had so much a thrill as The Zimmers in all her years.
"It's been fantastic," she said. "I never did anything like this in my younger days. It's just out of this world."
While the performing schedule is pretty tiring for some of the older members of the band, she said there were very few downsides to the stardom and quite a few benefits.
"We have lots of fans," she said with a giggle, "and even some groupies."

Lohan's dad: Lindsay hooked on OxyContin - By SANDY COHEN, AP Entertainment Writer

LOS ANGELES -
Lindsay Lindsay Lohan's estranged father says she suffers from multiple addictions, including alcohol and the painkiller OxyContin, the Web site E! Online reported Wednesday.
The 20-year-old actress checked into rehab Monday following a weekend that included crashing her Mercedes, being arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and being photographed slumped in the passenger seat of a friend's car. This is her second rehab stint this year.
"I spoke to the people treating Lindsay, because I wanted to make sure she was getting the right care," Michael Lohan told E! Online. "And I'm satisfied they are doing the right thing for her, helping her detox from the painkillers and things. That's a very important step."
Lindsay Lohan's publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnik, did not immediately return an after-hours call and e-mail from The Associated Press on Wednesday.
Michael Lohan was released from a New York state prison in March after serving almost two years for driving while intoxicated and other charges. He said he is studying to become a drug-rehab counselor with the faith-based organization Teen Challenge.
Before entering rehab, the actress was scheduled to start work this week on "Poor Things," a comedy featuring
Shirley MacLaine' name=c1> SEARCHNews News Photos Images Web' name=c3> Shirley MacLaine, who is also a producer on the movie. MacLaine and co-producer Rob Hickman said in a statement Wednesday that Lohan still wants to work on the project.
"We are trying to rearrange the shooting schedule to facilitate her working at the end of the shoot to coincide with the completion of her rehabilitation," the statement said.
In other events swirling around Lohan, who turns 21 on July 2, authorities who have been conducting undercover operations at trendy celebrity watering holes in recent weeks are seeking to find out if she was served alcohol before her weekend car crash.
California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control investigators also want to know if Lohan or others were served after hours, agency spokesman John Carr said.
Videos show Lohan leaving Hollywood's Les Deux club at 3:30 a.m.
Alcohol cannot be served in California after 2 a.m.
The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control told the Beverly Hills Police Department it wants to review witness reports and other evidence to determine if a formal investigation is warranted, Carr said.
Les Deux owner Lonnie Moore said in a statement that Lohan stayed late having dinner and waiting for friends, and wasn't drinking.

Blogging for business: 7 tips for getting started (By Jeff Wuorio)

ere are seven tips to get your Web log up and blogging.

1.

Identify your audience. A basic precept of any business is just as essential with your blog. It's critical to pinpoint your audience and, in the process, decide what you're going to say that will make them read what you write. "It's really a process of elimination —what's not being covered by someone else?" says Scott Allen, co-author of the upcoming book "The Virtual Handshake: Opening Doors and Closing Deals Using Online Social Networks." "What's your unique spin? If you don't have an original voice, why is anybody going to read it?"

2.

Decide where your blog should live. Next up is determining where to locate your blog. There are numerous software packages that let you add a blog section to an existing Web site. A more automated and perhaps easier option is a blog hosting site (with a link from your Web site bringing visitors over). Here, the setup is easy, as the site usually provides preformatted designs and other options from which you can choose. In particular, watch for features that may be helpful in building traffic, such as trackers that identify recent posts and the most popular message threads. (See sites such as Businessblogconsulting.com for reviews of various publishing platforms. One easy place to create a blog is on Windows Live Spaces.)

3.

Start talking. At this point, bringing your blog live will mean little more than placing your thoughts, observations and insights into the blog for others to read. But to really kick start your blogging traffic, don't just vent marketing-speak about how great your business is, or chatter about news and current events for which you offer no expertise. Instead, aim for a fresh, unique take. Provide a perspective that is heartfelt, compelling, and has the potential to help you market yourself and your business.

One way to get up to speed on what to say is to read other blogs and, in turn, offer your own viewpoint on an industry or business topic for which you know something about. "It's not a matter of competing with other blogs," Allen notes. "But one way to attract other bloggers to your site is to start reading other blogs and commenting on what they're writing about."
4.

Get into the practice of "blogrolling." Getting regular visitors to your site isn't just a matter of fresh, insightful commentary. Building traffic between blogs is another central element to luring repeat visitors. Here, "blogrolling" is an effective tool. This, in essence, is a set of links on your blog site that identifies other sites on the Internet --- related to your business, industry or expertise --- which you find valuable. Developed in conjunction with a fresh voice, blogrolling encourages a steady back and forth between various sites, including other blogs. "Write commentary about what other bloggers have written, then link to them," Allen says. "That really gets you into the overall bloggers' pool."

5.

Emphasize keywords. Search engine hits are another element of generating traffic. One strategy to attract search engine interest is through careful use of keywords in both your headlines and blog copy. For instance, if your topic focuses on marketing a business overseas, use of the words "marketing" and "overseas" as often as possible and in varied permutations can help push your blog site toward the head of the search engine line. "Stay on one topic, so your content is focused on keywords," advises Sally Falkow, a Pasadena, Calif., brand strategist who uses a blog in her business. "That, and link to other blogs on the subject."

6.

Keep it fresh. One cardinal snafu that can bring down even the best intentioned of blogs is stale content. Nothing is more discouraging to prospective readers than returning to a blog site to find old or outdated material. So, be prepared to work at keeping your blog as fresh and current as possible.

That doesn't necessarily mean regular entries as lengthy as a Michener novel — indeed, many engaging blogs are built of short, concise messages. But make a commitment to update your blog on as regular basis as your schedule reasonably permits. “You need to develop what I describe as a ruthless persistence toward posting, particularly if you disseminate the blog's address, and customers or suppliers come to depend on the information," says Rich Hanley, director of graduate programs in the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn. "People view blogs as daily information vehicles, not once in a while musings on a stray issue. Think of blogs as a conversation, and that will help with the daily focus."

7.

Watch your traffic closely. Don't make the mistake of feeling locked into your blog's initial topic. Monitor the amount and quality of the traffic you receive. If things seem slow or stagnant, don't be gun-shy about varying your themes or subjects to boost interest. But don't stray too far from your business or expertise. Also, advises Falkow, "Investigate how effective the [publishing] platform you choose to blog in is. I have tried several that did nothing for my search visibility."

Make money from your blog: 5 tips(By Jeff Wuorio)

Many of the people who write blogs today simply want to share their opinion on something. But then there are the business-minded folks, who have found a way to use blogs, or Web logs, to bring in a little extra cash too.

If you're interested in taking it further — blogging for bucks, if you will — here are five strategies that could turn your blog into a moneymaker.

1.

Sell advertising. This is likely the most common means of leveraging a blog to generate income. If yours happens to become a well-known blog, or one that is well-received in a particular niche, it's always possible to sell ad space on your own. For lesser-known blogs, services such as Google's AdSense or BlogAds enable bloggers to establish ad programs.

AdSense's — which lets you select several ads that are consistent with the content of your blog — pays you based on how many readers click on the ads for further information. Even better, it's free. BlogAds, on the other hand, hooks bloggers up with would-be advertisers and levies a commission in return for any ad placements that result. "The nice thing, too, is that the ads are relatively unobtrusive," says Scott Allen, co-author of "The Virtual Handshake: Opening Doors and Closing Deals Online."

2.

Help sell others' products. Here is another click-through opportunity. Affiliate programs enable your blog to serve as a conduit between readers and online sites offering various goods and services. One popular choice is Amazon.com. If, for instance, you offer book reviews or even just mention a book in passing in your blog, an affiliate program provides a means for your readers to click directly from your blog to Amazon to obtain further information about the book. If they break out the checkbook or charge card, you get paid as well.

3.

Solicit contributions. Not every blog-related income opportunity involves hawking goods or services. As Blanche DuBois did in "A Streetcar Named Desire," consider relying on the kindness of strangers. Ask for contributions. If, for instance, your small-business blog supports a cause or issue in some fashion — say you repeatedly mention tax reform, health care or some other topic — you can always ask for reader support.

Even if you've attracted a group of regular followers who simply enjoy reading what you have to say, they may be willing to underwrite their loyalty with a little financial help. Programs such as PayPal make it easy to establish a simple on-site contribution collection button. "There are lots of worthy 'cause' blogs that would qualify for donations from grateful members of the blog community," says Las Vegas communications consultant Ned Barnett.

4.

Market your services in your blog. Many people associate blogs exclusively with a cyberspace-based soapbox — a place to shout your opinions and little more than that. Granted, blogs are an ideal venue to share your thoughts with others, but don't overlook their capacity to generate new business as well. When appropriate, work in references to what you do and, in turn, what you may be able to offer any would-be client or customer who may be reading your blog. That can spread your opinion and your business moxie at the same time.

"Instead of short commentaries that begin a dialogue with readers, as many blogs do, I write the equivalent of journal articles that demonstrate my abilities, strategies and perspectives on specific issues," Barnett says. "When it resonates, it means money. Since starting this approach, I have generated three new paying clients and brought in about $10,000 on revenue — directly attributable to specific blogs."

5.

Use a blog to deepen your existing customer relationships. Nor does any marketing material inserted in blog content have to be limited to bringing in completely new business. By using a blog to regularly communicate with existing clients as well as other readers, you can take advantage of the opportunity to fully inform them about everything your business does. That may expand your readers' understanding of the full scope of your products or services.

"My blog has helped existing clients determine the range of my skills and services," says Ted Demopoulos of Demopoulos Associates, a Durham, N.H. consulting and training concern. "One client who had only used me for training in the past was surprised at my range of expertise and is now using me for a consulting project. Another who only used me on technical projects is now considering me for a more business-oriented project."

"Obie Trice, Real Name No Gimmicks..."

Two trailer park girls go round the outside,
round the outside, round the outside.
Two trailer park girls go round the outside,
round the outside, round the outside.

"Ooooohhhhh!"

Guess who's back, back again
Shady's back, tell a friend
Guess who's back, guess who's back,
guess who's back, guess who's back,
guess who's back, guess who's back,
guess who's back...

I've created a monster, cuz nobody wants to
See Marshall no more they want Shady
I'm chopped liver
Well if you want Shady, then this is what I'll give ya
A little bit of me mixed with some hard liquor
Some vodka that will jumpstart my heart quicker
Then a shock when I get shocked at the hospital
By the Dr. when I'm not cooperating
When I'm rocking the table while he's operating "Hey"
You waited this long to stop debating
Cuz I'm back, I'm on the rag and ovulating
I know you got a job Ms. Cheney
But your husbands heart problem is complicated
So the FCC won't let me be
Or let me be me so let me see
They tried to shut me down on MTV
But it feels so empty without me
So come on dip, bum on your lips
jump back, jiggle her hip and wiggle a bit
And get ready cuz this is about to get heavy
I just settled all my lawsuits, "_uck you Debbie!"

Now this looks like a job for me
So everybody just follow me
Cuz we need a little controversy,
Cuz it feels so empty without me

I said this looks like a job for me
So everybody just follow me
Cuz we need a little controversy,
Cuz it feels so empty without me

Little hellions, kids feeling rebellious
Embarrassed, their parents still listen to Elvis
They start feeling like prison is helpless,
Til someone comes along on a mission and yells "b*tch"
A visionary, vision is scary, could start a revolution,
Pollutin' the air waves a rebel
So let me just revel and bask,
In the fact that I got everyone kissing my ass
And it's a disaster such a catastrophe
For you to see so damn much of my ass you ask for me?
Well I'm back (*Batman Noise*) fix your bent antenna
Tune it in and then I'm gonna enter
Into the front of your skin like a splinter
The center of attention back for the winter
I'm interesting, the best thing since wrestling
Infesting in your kids ears and nesting
Testing "Attention Please"
Feel the tension soon as someone mentions me
Here's my 10 cents my 2 cents is free
A nuisance, who sent, you sent for me?

Now this looks like a job for me
So everybody just follow me
Cuz we need a little controversy,
Cuz it feels so empty without me

I said this looks like a job for me
So everybody just follow me
Cuz we need a little controversy,
Cuz it feels so empty without me

Now this looks like a job for me

I said this looks like a job for me

A tisk-it a task-it,
I go tit for tat with anybody who's talking this & that sh_t
Chris Kirkpatrick, you can get your ass kicked
Worse than them little Limp Bizkit bastards,
And Moby, you can get stomped by Obie,
You 36 year old bald headed scared ____ me
You don't know me, you're too old
Let go, it's over, nobody listens to techno
Now lets go, just give me the signal
I will be there with a whole list full of new insults
I've been dope, suspenseful with a pencil
Ever since Prince turned himself into a symbol
But sometimes man it just seems,
Everybody only wants to discuss me
So this means I'm disgusting,
But its just me I'm just obscene
Though I'm not the first king of controversy
I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley,
To do Black Music so selfishly
And use it to get myself wealthy (Hey)
There's a concept that works
20 million other white rappers emerge
But no matter how many fish in the sea
It'll be so empty without me

Now this looks like a job for me
So everybody just follow me
Cuz we need a little controversy,
Cuz it feels so empty without me

I said this looks like a job for me
So everybody just follow me
Cuz we need a little controversy,
Cuz it feels so empty without me

Now this looks like a job for me
So everybody just follow me

Hum dei la la la, la la la la la, la la la la la, la la la la
Hum dei la la la, la la la la la, la la la la la, la la la la

"Kids!"

lyric of When I'm Gone-eminem

[Introduction]
Yeah...
It's my life...
My own words I guess...

[Verse 1]
Have you ever loved someone so much, you'd give an arm for?
Not the expression, no, literally give an arm for?
When they know they're your heart
And you know you were their armour
And you will destroy anyone who would try to harm 'em
But what happens when karma, turns right around and bites you?
And everything you stand for, turns on you, despite you?
What happens when you become the main source of a pain?
"Daddy look what I made", Dad's gotta go catch a plane
"Daddy where's Mommy? I can't find Mommy where is she?"
I don't know go play Hailie, baby, your Daddy's busy
Daddy's writing this song, this song ain't gonna write itself
I'll give you one underdog then you gotta swing by yourself
Then turn right around on that song and tell her you love her
And put hands on her mother, who's a spitting image of her
That's Slim Shady, yeah baby, Slim Shady's crazy
Shady made me, but tonight Shady's rocka-by-baby...

[Chorus]
And when I'm gone, just carry on, don't mourn
Rejoice every time you hear the sound of my voice
Just know that I'm looking down on you smiling
And I didn't feel a thing, So baby don't feel no pain
Just smile back
And when I'm gone, just carry on, don't mourn
Rejoice every time you hear the sound of my voice
Just know that I'm looking down on you smiling
And I didn't feel a thing, So baby don't feel no pain
Just smile back...

[Verse 2]
I keep having this dream, I'm pushin' Hailie on the swing
She keeps screaming, she don't want me to sing
"You're making Mommy cry, why? Why is Mommy crying?"
Baby, Daddy ain't leaving no more, "Daddy you're lying
"You always say that, you always say this is the last time
"But you ain't leaving no more, Daddy you're mine"
She's piling boxes in front of the door trying to block it
"Daddy please, Daddy don't leave, Daddy - no stop it!"
Goes in her pocket, pulls out a tiny necklace locket
It's got a picture, "this'll keep you safe Daddy, take it withcha'"
I look up, it's just me standing in the mirror
These stinkin' walls must be talking, cuz man I can hear 'em
They're saying "You've got one more chance to do right" - and it's tonight
Now go out there and show that you love 'em before it's too late
And just as I go to walk out of my bedroom door
It's turns to a stage, they're gone, and this spotlight is on
And I'm singing...

[Verse 3]
Sixty thousand people, all jumping out their seat
The curtain closes, they're throwing roses at my feet
I take a bow and thank you all for coming out
They're screaming so loud, I take one last look at the crowd
I glance down, I don't believe what I'm seeing
"Daddy it's me, help Mommy, her wrists are bleeding,"
But baby we're in Sweden, how did you get to Sweden?
"I followed you Daddy, you told me that you weren't leavin'
"You lied to me Dad, and now you make Mommy sad
"And I bought you this coin, it says 'Number One Dad'
"That's all I wanted, I just want to give you this coin
"I get the point - fine, me and Mommy are gone"
But baby wait, "it's too late Dad, you made the choice
"Now go up there and show 'em that you love 'em more than us"
That's what they want, they want you Marshall, they keep.. screamin' your name
It's no wonder you can't go to sleep, just take another pill
Yeah, I bet you you will. You rap about it, yeah, word, k-keep it real
I hear applause, all this time I couldn't see
How could it be, that the curtain is closing on me
I turn around, find a gun on the ground, cock it
Put it to my brain and scream "die Shady" and pump it
The sky darkens, my life flashes, the plane that I was supposed to be on crashes and burns to ashes
That's when I wake up, alarm clock's ringin', there's birds singin'
It's Spring and Hailie's outside swinging, I walk up to Kim and kiss her
Tell her I miss her, Hailie just smiles and winks at her little sister
Almost as if to say..

[Chorus/Outro]
And when I'm gone, just carry on, don't mourn
Rejoice every time you hear the sound of my voice
Just know that I'm looking down on you smiling
And I didn't feel a thing, So baby don't feel no pain
Just smile back
And when I'm gone, just carry on, don't mourn
Rejoice every time you hear the sound of my voice
Just know that I'm looking down on you smiling
And I didn't feel a thing, So baby don't feel no pain
Just smile back...

Lennon ruled out of England squad

AFPMay 27, 2007
LONDON (AFP) - Knee-victim Aaron Lennon will not appear in forthcoming England matches against Brazil and Estonia following the results of a scan.
The Tottenham winger suffered the injury during Friday's 3-1 England B win over Albania at Turf Moor.
Lennon was sent for a scan and the results confirmed he will miss the Wembley meeting with Brazil on Friday and the Euro 2008 qualifying trip to Tallinn on Wednesday week.
Lennon's withdrawal from the England squad makes it even more likely that recalled former England skipper David Beckham will play against both teams.

Beckham returns to England squad for Brazil, Estonia games

By ROBERT MILLWARD, AP Soccer WriterMay 26, 2007
AP - May 25, 4:15 pm EDTMore Photos
LONDON (AP) -- David Beckham's quality performances for Real Madrid have forced England coach Steve McClaren to recall him. Now the former World Cup captain hopes he won't be left on the bench.
Beckham, who will move to the MLS with the Los Angeles Galaxy next month, was selected in England's 26-man squad Saturday for the first time since last year's World Cup in Germany.
After being overlooked for England's last nine games, Beckham could play in the exhibition with Brazil at Wembley on June 1 and a 2008 European Championship qualifier at Estonia five days later.
"We've got a very big game in Estonia coming up that we have to win and I've got to pick a squad capable of doing that," England coach Steve McClaren said. "That's why I've picked David.
"Since Christmas his form has been very good, I think he can help us win in Estonia and that's why I picked him. I feel at this moment, that for the Estonia game, we need experience and David certainly provides that. He is in very, very good form. The team needs that."
That suggests Beckham will go straight into the starting lineup for the Group E game, which England needs to win to stay in touch with Croatia, Israel and Russia in the race to the 2008 European Championships. Only two teams qualify from each group.
McClaren's other option for the right-wing position is Aaron Lennon. The 20-year-old Tottenham star went off after only 10 minutes of Friday's England "B" victory over Albania with a twisted knee, but has made the squad.
Since McClaren took over from Sven-Goran Eriksson after the World Cup, he said he wanted younger stars rather than established players such as Beckham, who is chasing his 95th appearance for England. If Lennon is fit, he is likely to play and Beckham could end up watching the matches from the bench.
McClaren also stressed John Terry would be the captain, rather than Beckham, who led the team 57 times.
"David comes back as David Beckham the player, that's what we want on the field, doing what we know he can do," McClaren said. "There will be debate and opinion about it, but it's my decision and a decision I think is best for England to produce a winning team that the fans can be proud of. I think David can be part of that. He's been picked in the squad and what the team is will be apparent nearer the time."
The 32-year-old Beckham played the last of his 94 internationals in the World Cup quarterfinals against Portugal on July 1, watching from the sideline with an injured leg as his team lost a penalty shootout.
McClaren is without the injured Gary Neville, Micah Richards, Ashley Cole, Andrew Johnson, Owen Hargreaves and Ben Foster. Wayne Rooney is suspended against Estonia and been left out of the exhibition against Brazil.
Like Beckham, Michael Owen could make his first appearance since the World Cup.
The Newcastle striker broke down with a serious knee injury after four minutes of England's 2-2 draw with Sweden and has only returned to play in the last three weeks. He played the full 90 minutes of Friday's 3-1 victory over Albania.
England Squad:
Goalkeepers: Paul Robinson, (Tottenham), Scott Carson (Liverpool), Robert Green (West Ham).
Defenders: Phil Neville (Everton), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), John Terry (Chelsea, captain), Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Wes Brown (Manchester United), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Michael Dawson (Tottenham), Ledley King (Tottenham), Nicky Shorey (Reading).
Midfielders: David Beckham (Real Madrid), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), David Bentley (Blackburn), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), Kieron Dyer (Newcastle).
Forwards: Peter Crouch (Liverpool), Michael Owen (Newcastle), Alan Smith (Manchester United), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham).

Jazz rout Spurs to get back in series

SALT LAKE CITY - Tenacious from the start, Utah's Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer gave the home fans exactly what they expected in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals. Once their teammates got into the act, the Jazz gave the crowd what it really wanted, a 109-83 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night that drastically changes the outlook of the series

U.S. deaths near grim Memorial Day mark

Day a year ago. The figure is telling — and expected to rise in coming months.
"It could be a bloody — it could be a very difficult August," he said last week.
U.S. commander Gen. David Petraeus on Saturday acknowledged the increase in casualties as a result of the American surge in forces to regain control of Baghdad.
"We're doing heavy fighting. This is a fight. There's a war on out there," he told reporters at al-Asad Airbase in western Iraq.
Michael O'Hanlon, a military analyst with the Brookings Institution and a consultant to the bipartisan Iraq Study Group, said the increased casualties were a result of the security operation.
Thousands more American soldiers are patrolling the streets and living in isolated outposts across Baghdad, leaving them more vulnerable to attack. He also said the increase in raids on extremist Shiite militiamen had brought a wave of retaliatory attacks.
"We're out there on the streets a lot more. There are more patrols going on every day, so we're more open to attacks," O'Hanlon said.
Stephen Biddle, a military expert at the Council on Foreign Relations and a member of a group that spent weeks in Iraq assessing the situation for Petraeus and U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker, agreed that more American deaths were likely.
"The biggest change in their (insurgent and militia) tactics is that they've changed to exploit the vulnerabilities we've opened ourselves up to. They see a new, small American base in their neighborhood, three blocks away, and they're going to car bomb it," said Biddle.
"We're going to see a spike in the short term," said Biddle. "But the likelihood is that in six months we'll see a drop in casualties as these areas become more secure. The problem is, what about the rest of the country?"
By the end of Saturday at least 100 American troops had died in the first 26 days of May, an average of 3.85 deaths a day. At that pace, 119 troops will have died by the end of the month, the most since 137 soldiers were killed in November 2004, when U.S. troops were fighting insurgents in Fallujah.
As of Saturday, May 26, 2007, at least 3,451 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,817 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military.
